Leroy Johnson

LeRoy C. Johnson, age 89 of Sauk Centre, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008 surrounded by family at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Todd Schneider will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 5:15 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

LeRoy C. Johnson was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on December 21, 1918 to Carl and Elizabeth (Warner) Johnson. He attended school at Lyman Prairie and Sauk Centre. LeRoy took over the family farm at the age of 21, when his father passed away. On January 22, 1946 he was united in marriage to Bernice C. Wiener at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. He and Bernice continued to live on the Johnson farm throughout their marriage. Farming was LeRoy's life. He loved driving tractor, watching RFD T.V., and telling jokes. He cherished his son and seven daughters. LeRoy was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and the St. Paul's Catholic Aid.

LeRoy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bernice; daughters, Margaret Johnson of St. Paul, Lois (Tim) Preusser of Sauk Rapids, Karen (John) Neenan of Hastings, Marilyn Karlsson of St. Joseph, Linda (Dale) Gormanson of St. Paul, Eileen (John Bennett) Johnson of Pepin, Wisconsin, and Sandra (partner, Erika Bjornson) Johnson of Chicago, Illinois; granddaughters, Sarah, Clare and Madeline Neenan and Svea Karlsson; sister, Edna Koch.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his daughter, Alice; son, Ralph; parents; and sister, Mildred Adrian.

Serving as casket bearers will be Dennis Kortan, David Gamradt, Mike Gamradt, Jim Gamradt, Danny Hanson and Dale Primus. Honorary casket bearers will be Leo Wiener, Richard Kortan, Donovan Hanson, Bengt Karlsson and St. Paul's Catholic Aid. Serving as cross bearer will be Svea Karlsson and scripture bearer will be Clare Neenan.
