LeRoy W. Hoeschen, age 90 of Freeport, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 11 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Daniel Walz officiating and Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military honors provided by the Albany American Legion.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church in Freeport. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. followed by the St. Joseph's Society and Catholic United Financial at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
LeRoy William Hoeschen was born August 29, 1927 in Freeport, Minnesota to Conrad and Elizabeth (Kleve) Hoeschen. He served in the U.S. Army from September 22, 1954 through his honorable discharge on September 22, 1956. On August 11, 1959 he was united in marriage to Laura Bellmont at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waite Park. LeRoy was born and raised on the family farm which he took over until 1988. The couple moved to St. Anthony for ten years and relocated to Freeport in 1997, while LeRoy hauled livestock until 2004.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport, Albany American Legion Unit 482, Catholic United Financial #101, and St. Joseph's Men's Society. LeRoy enjoyed playing cards and recycling metal and aluminum cans.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Hoeschen of Freeport; children, Bonnie (David) Kellner of Cold Spring, Ann (James) Stommes of Albany, John (Tamra) Hoeschen of St. Paul, Randy (Karen) Hoeschen of St. Louis Park, Steven (Sondra) Hoeschen of Sartell, and Michael (Monica) Hoeschen of Bloomington; 16 grandchildren with one on the way and seven great-grandchildren with one on the way; brothers and sisters, Charlene (Jack) Petermeier of Albany, Shirley Uphoff of Melrose, and Judy (Ray "Skip") Kmitch of St. Cloud.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Thomas Hoeschen; grandson, Shane Meyer; brother, Roger Hoeschen; and sisters, Donna Kerfeld and Lorene Pfau.
