Leora E. Leukam, age 84, of Greenwald, died Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 9 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald with Rev. Tom Becker officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Christian Women will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Leora Leukam was born on March 28, 1924 in Belgrade, Minnesota to Michael and Isabelle (Kolb) Bertram. On September 24, 1946, she was united in marriage to Albert G. Leukam at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade. After marriage, the couple lived and farmed near Greenwald.She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald and the Christian Women. Leora loved both flower and vegetable gardening, playing cards, cooking and canning.
Survivors include her children, LaVonne (Steve) Bitz of Grey Eagle and Marvin Leukam of Greenwald; 2 grandchildren, Ryan and Cory Bitz; sisters, Edwina Pung of Melrose and Joan Meyer of Belgrade.
Leora was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Isabelle Bertram; husband, Albert Leukam on December 24, 1990; daughter, Margaret Jones; and sisters, Alice Leukam and Bernadette Pung.
Serving as casket bearers will be John Leukam, Allen Meyer, Bob Leukam, Jim Leukam, Mike Pung, and Kevin Rieland. Cross bearer will be Ryan Bitz and scripture bearer will be Cory Bitz.
