Leona A. Walz, age 83 of Greenwald died Sunday, March 13, 2005 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald with Rev. Ronald Dockendorf officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 to 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Mothers will pray at 7 p.m. immediately followed by parish prayers.

Leona Ann Marie Walz was born October 15, 1921 in Spring Hill Township, Stearns County on her parent's farm. She was the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Meyer) Worms. She was united in marriage on August 24, 1943 to Walter "Buddy" Walz. They lived on their farm until 1996 when they retired from farming and moved to Greenwald where they currently resided. Leona loved making quilts, gardening and working in her many flower beds. She enjoyed baking bread, cookies and various desserts. She embroidered many dish towels and enjoyed playing cards with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Leona was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald and the Christian Mothers.

Survivors include her husband, Walter "Buddy" Walz of Greenwald; children, Marilyn Lieser and her husband, Eldred of Regal, Clarine Beier of Mora, David Walz of Greenwald, Anita Burg and her husband, Steve of St. Martin and Deb Keller and her husband, Pat of Greenwald; 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; and sisters, Armella Schmidt and her husband, Elmer of Holdingford, Aurelia Rasinski of Minnetonka, Erma Schultz and her husband, Rich of Clarkston, WA, Rita Beloit and her husband, Glenn of Spokane, WA, and Loretta Mosman and her husband, Gerald of Walla Walla, WA.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Clara Worms; son, Daniel; and sister, Irene Walz.

Serving as casket bearers will be Scott Burg, Curt Lieser, Doug Beier, Brian Keller, Jason Beier and Kyle Burg. Serving as cross bearer will be Denise Wuertz. Honorary Bearers will be Beata Frieler, Charlene Ohmann, Darlene Kulzer, Leona Frieler, Bernetta Heinen, Monica Frieler, Armella Eveslage, Mayme Imdieke, Rachel Klaphake and Edna Worms. Gift Bearers will be Rachel Burg, Amy Keller, and Danielle Burg. Lectors will be Cassie Keller and Heidi Riley. Stephanie Burg will read the Petitions. Eucharistic Minister will be Jackie Ohmann. Cheryl Strelow will read a special poem.
