Leona Schloegl

Leona C. Schloegl, age 94 of Sauk Centre, died Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Getty Street Assisted Living in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 28 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Jeremy Theis will officiate with private inurnment in St. Paul's Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Leona Catherine Van Heel was born July 26, 1920 in Freeport, Minnesota to Frank and Agnes (Notch) Van Heel. On August 23, 1952 she married Bernard "Ben" Schloegl at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. The couple farmed in Sauk Centre Township, Stearns County and Leona continued to live there until December, 2008 when she moved to Fairway Pines Assisted Living. For the past 2 ½ years she had resided at Getty Street Assisted Living. She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church.

Leona enjoyed gardening, sewing, rug making, and embroidery.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharon (Donald) Botz of Cottage Grove; four grandchildren, Mike Botz, Stephanie (Jake Nelson) Botz, Staci Botz, and Matthew Botz; two great grandchildren, Dakota and Cheyenne Nelson; sisters and brothers, Marion Huschle of Bagley, Lorraine Bierschbach of Melrose, Arthur (Dorothy) Van Heel of Freeport, Francis Van Heel of Roseville, Robert (Janice) Van Heel of Freeport, Virgil (Joann) Van Heel of Loveland, Colorado, and Bernice Roering of Albany; sister-in-law, Monica Van Heel of Swanville; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernard "Ben" Schloegl on December 18, 2005; granddaughter, Michelle Botz; sisters, Valeria Schrantz and Louise Minette; and brother, Elmer Van Heel.

Serving as casket bearers will be Matt and Mike Botz, Jim and Randy Schloegl, David Van Heel, and Jake Nelson. Cross bearer will be Cheyenne Nelson and scripture bearer will be Dakota Nelson.
