Leona Funk

Leona M. Funk, age 86, of Freeport, died Friday, November 23, 2007 at the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 26 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Roger Klassen, OSB officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Mothers, Goldenaire Senior Citizens, Sacred Heart Catholic Aid Society, and Daughters of Isabella will pray at 4 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 5:00 p.m. Sunday evening.

Leona Funk was born on March 30, 1921 in Farming Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Leonard and Anna (Vossen) Statz. On June 19, 1946 she married Henry J. Funk in Richmond, Minnesota. She resided in Freeport for the rest of her life.Leona's faith and family were very important to her. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, quilting, and being a member of book clubs and card groups. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport, Christian Mothers, Goldenaire Senior Citizens, Sacred Heart Catholic Aid Society, National Catholic Society of Foresters, Daughters of Isabella, Freeport Aquina Book Club, Melrose Historical Society and Sacred Heart Quilting Groups.

Survivors include her children, Rose Ann (David) Bedell of Salem, Ohio, Yvonne "Yvonnie" (Mike) Yapuncich of St. Cloud, Eugene "Gene" (Shirley) Funk of St. Cloud, Jerome "Jerry" (Gayle) Funk of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Doris (Steven) Walz of Belgrade, and Duane (Bev) Funk of Guffey, Colorado; 17 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brothers, Thomas (Leona) Statz of Richmond, and Arnold (Clara) Statz of Richmond; sisters, Agatha Kunstleben of New Munich and Anna C. Schmitt of Richmond; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Statz.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry J. Funk, on November 20, 1984; infant son, Jeffrey; and brother, Greg Statz.
