Leander J. Boeckers, age 92 of Sauk Centre, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa with Rev. Jeff Ethen officiating. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. St. James Society of Catholic Aid Association will pray at 4:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Leander Boeckers was born April 19, 1915 in Krain Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Gerhard and Pauline (Barrett) Boeckers. On April 18, 1944 he was united in marriage to Amalia Eibensteiner at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa. Leander began his life farming until 1958 when he started cutting meat at the Greenwald Locker. He worked at the locker for 34 years and then began working for Imdieke Meats in Melrose for 4 more years before his retirement.He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the St. James Society of Catholic Aid Association. He was a sports fanatic, especially baseball. Later in life his hobbies included playing cards and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Amalia "Molly" Boeckers of Sauk Centre; children, Wilfred (Janet) Boeckers of Elrosa, Mary Ann Boeckers of Elrosa, and Darlene (Wayne) Hallermann of Sauk Centre; four grandchildren, Janell, Emily, and Maria Boeckers, and Tony Hallermann; brother, Alois (Anna) Boeckers of Albany; and sister, Ida Boeckers of Albany.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Eugene Boeckers on March 7, 1967; grandson, Michael Boeckers on August 14, 1979; brothers, August Boeckers in infancy, and Oswald Boeckers; and sister, Monica Schwinghammer.
Serving as casket bearers will be Duane Schwinghammer, Donald Schwinghammer, Ralph Boeckers, Roger Boeckers, David Eibensteiner, and Ervin Boeckers. Cross bearer will be Tony Hallermann and scripture bearer will be Dennis Boeckers.
