Lawrence V. Terwilliger, age 86 of Sauk Centre, died Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at the Department of Veteran Affairs Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24 at Little Sauk-Long Bridge Lutheran Church, rural Sauk Centre. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.

Friends may call Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and Saturgay at the church one hour prior to the service. The United Veterans of Sauk Centre will pray at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Sauk Centre.

Lawrence was born July 1, 1920 in Madison, South Dakota to John and Clara (Coty) Terwilliger. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Lawrence married Lillian C. Hineline on May 27, 1947 at Pierre, South Dakota. They moved to Long Prairie where he served in the National Guard. He was employed by Miller Auto in Long Prairie as a mechanic until they moved to Grove Lake where he owned his own gas and service station. They then moved to Little Sauk where he owned a gas and service station. He received a degree as a heavy equipment mechanic from Willmar Tech in 1967. He was employed by road construction companies, later working for the Trucker's Inn and Modern Farm Equipment in Sauk Centre.After his retirement, he enjoyed selling honey, raspberries and pumpkins at flea markets. He was known as the "Honey Man". Lawrence and Lillian enjoyed wintering in Arizona for 12 years. Some of Lawrence's other hobbies were hunting, fishing, and spearing as well as playing Bingo at the VA Hospital.He was a member of Little Sauk-Long Bridge Lutheran Church, Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853, American Legion Post 67 and the Sinclair Lewis Aerie 3847 Fraternal Order of Eagles in Sauk Centre.

Survivors include his children, Ila Stepaniak (Bill) of St. Cloud, John Terwilliger of Melrose, Karin Wessel (Vernon) of Swanville, and Glen Terwilliger (Becky) of Sauk Centre; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lillian C. Terwilliger on August 8, 2002; sisters, Della Richtarik, Frances Schrier, Loretta Touchstone, Mildred Randall, Addie Martin, and Eva Foley.

Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
