LaVerne Catherine Bruder was born June 2, 1939 in Long Prairie, Minnesota, the daughter of Henrietta (Claseman) and Michael Bruder. LaVerne grew up in Long Prairie and graduated from high school in 1957. On August 27, 1957, LaVerne was united in marriage to David G. Messer in Long Prairie, Minnesota. Together, they raised their family on the farm they had purchased in 1957. LaVerne can be remembered as a woman who had a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh! She kept a diary and journaled all through-out her life. She enjoyed many family camping trips and travels throughout the United States and especially enjoyed driving through the mountain ranges. LaVerne had a fondness for little white country churches and treasured pictures of all she had seen. Several of her hobbies included doing crossword puzzles and playing cards with friends and neighbors, however; her greatest joy was being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as all her "fur" babies!
LaVerne was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre and sang in the church choir for many years.
