Laura Scherping

Laura E. Scherping, 89, of Freeport died Thursday, April 3, 2003 at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 7, 2003, 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Freeport with Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church in Freeport. Christian Mothers and Golden Years Senior Citizens will pray at 4 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Laura Scherping was born May 31, 1913 in St. Anthony, Minnesota to Bernard and Anna (Ostendorf) Luethmers. Laura was united in marriage to Lawrence Scherping on June 12, 1940 in St. Anthony, MN. Lawrence and Laura lived and farmed on the 3rd generation Scherping Farm south of Freeport. Lawrence passed away April 13, 1974. Laura continued to live, work and watch her grandchildren grow up on the Century Farm until she went in the nursing home in the fall of 2002. Laura was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers.Laura was a very inspirational wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all of us. Laura loved to garden, was a master cook in her kitchen and an artist with a needle and thread. We love her and will miss her dearly.

She is survived by her 3 children, LaVern, Loren (Jane) of Freeport; Lou Ann (Norbert) Jost, Jr. of St. Cloud; sister, Madeline (Henry) Duclos of Freeport; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence in 1974; brothers, Lawrence and Clemens Luethmers; and sisters, Alma, Marcella Luethmers and Irene Korhorst.

Casket bearers will be grandchildren, Jason, Bryan, Lori, Sandy, Randy and Kristin Scherping. Cross bearer will be Norbert Jost Jr. with Jane Scherping serving as scripture bearer. Honorary bearers will be Christian Mothers.
