Kent D. Buchanan, age 79 of Sauk Centre, died Saturday, July 23, 2011 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 27 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Kevin Born will officiate. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Sauk Centre. Military honors provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Kent Douglas Buchanan was born December 15, 1931 in Arkansaw, Wisconsin to Henry and Irma (Schrader) Buchanan. After graduating from Arkansaw High School, Kent served in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Germany for three and a half years, working as a radar operator. In 1957, he married JoAnne Castle in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. The couple moved to Sauk Centre in 1963, where they owned and operated Ken Mart and JoAnne's Fashion Shop. Kent retired in November of 1999.
Kent enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, and playing with his grandkids.He was a member of First Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 67, and the Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, JoAnne of Sauk Centre; daughter, Tanya (Danny Wolfe) Tate of Albany; grandchildren, Hunter Isaac, Kylie Elizabeth, and Aiden James all of Albany; brother, Bruce (Shirley) Buchanan of Grey Eagle; sisters, Sharon Beckler of Bloomington, Linda Henn of Plum City Wisconsin, and Ginger Sweeney of Arkansaw; and his dog Shadow.
Kent was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Irma Buchanan; sister, Carolyn Weiss; and nephew, Blake Weiss.
