Kenny Stepan, age 49 of Sauk Centre, died of ALS Friday, July 30, 2010 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 4 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Tim Wenzel and Rev. James Statz will concelebrate with interment following in St. Paul's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre.
Kenny Stepan was born January 11, 1961 in Glenwood, Minnesota, the tenth child of Ferdinand and Evelyn (Goerdt) Stepan. He was a 1979 graduate of Sauk Centre High School. On November 17, 1984 he married Julie Schaefer at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre and they had two sons, Michael and Logan.Kenny was usually involved in some form of agriculture, whether it was farming, working for Hanson Silo Company, or Stearns Veterinary Outlet from 2000 until ALS forced him to retire in 2004. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church and Bishop Busch Council 4863 Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Julie and sons, Michael (Ashley) and Logan; his parents, Ferdinand and Evelyn Stepan; brothers and sisters, Jim (Conny) Stepan, Barb Stepan, Cathy Dawson, Ferdie Stepan, Donna (Ron) Bromenshenkel, Maurice (Cindy) Stepan, Dan (Jane) Stepan, and Maria (Dale) Rieland; mother-in-law, Shirley Schaefer; sisters-in-law, Patty (Jeff) Weisser, Mary (Rod) Rassler, Donna (Tom) Uphus, and Karen (Jeff) Deters; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; infant brother, Johnny; great nephew, Colton Deters; sister-in-law, LeLand Stepan; and father-in-law, Gene Schaefer.
Serving as casket bearers will be Shawn Rieland, Jason Bromenshenkel, Jim Stepan, Jr., Shane Deters, Ben Stepan, and Nathan Uphus. Cross bearer will be Heather Juelke and scripture bearer will be Caitlin Deters. Gift bearers will be Patrick and Maggie Stepan and lector will be Diane Schmiesing. Honorary bearers will be Jeff Zehrer, Dustin and Darin Ilgen, Gregg Mohs, Robert Schofield, Jerry Kulzer, Cal Harms, David Tomsche, Don Brower, and Mel Roehrl.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Holy Family School, ALS Association-MN Chapter, or a charity of the donor's choice.
