Kay F. Schurman, age 75 of Glenwood, died Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 31 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday morning at the church.

Kay Frances Emmel was born October 17, 1936 in Staples, Minnesota to Edmund and Frances (Kalla) Emmel. She graduated from Sauk Centre High School and continued her education in Minneapolis. After graduating from business college she took a job with Hartford Insurance. On July 18, 1959 she was united in marriage to Adelbert Schurman at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. The couple raised their family and lived for over forty years in New Hope. After her children were grown, Kay went back to the working world, taking a job with Prudential. In 2007 the couple moved to Glenwood although they called Mesa, Arizona home during six months of the year.

Kay enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, making beadwork calendars, walking her dogs, shopping, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Kay was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood and the Christian Mothers.

Kay is survived by her husband of 52 years, Adelbert Schurman of Glenwood; children, Bradley (Kathy) Schurman of St. Michael, Sandra (Rick) Halvorson of Keller, Texas, James (Susan) Schurman of Jordan, and Krisann (Rick) Mathieu of Bloomington; five grandchildren, Ashley Kay Halvorson, Austin Halvorson, Jacob Schurman, Tyler Mathieu, and Trey Mathieu; and brother, Dale (Carol) Emmel of Sauk Centre.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund and Frances Emmel; and step-mother, Hilda "Dude" Emmel.

Serving as casket bearers will be Rick Halvorson, Rick Mathieu, Austin Halvorson, Jacob Schurman, Paul Schaefer, and Dale Emmel. Cross bearer will be Trey Mathieu and scripture bearer will be Tyler Mathieu.
