Katherine M. Schmiesing, age 88 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at her home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, December 27 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Katherine Mary Kinsella was born April 25, 1930 in Raymond Township, Stearns County, Minnesota, to John and Mary (Krebsbach) Kinsella. She married Walter Schmiesing on June 15, 1963 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Flowers were Katherine's passion. Her place was always beautiful and decorated with flowers. She was a jack of all trades and always down played everything she did. Katherine baked wedding cakes, painted, did wood making, leather working, and even trained horses. She was also an avid card player and loved her crosswords puzzles and puzzles. Katherine was never afraid to tackle anything and was fiercely independent. She also loved helping with her grandkids.
Katherine was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her children, Patricia (Barth) Vasey of Sauk Centre, Thomas Schmiesing, and his children, Daniel, Tanner, Marcus, and Mackenzie Schmiesing of Sauk Centre, Cynthia (John) Banovetz, and their children, John Doyle, Katherine, and Matthew Banovetz of Edina, and Terry (Rachel) Schmiesing, and their children, Kelly, Derek, and Hannah Schmiesing and Lila Barrett of Minneapolis; and brother, John Berscheit of Sauk Centre.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Schmiesing; parents, John and Mary Kinsella; granddaughter, Madison Schmiesing; brothers and sisters, Gertrude Wielenberg, Irene Marthaler, Robert Kinsella, Lloyd Kinsella, Bernard Kinsella, and Paul Berscheit.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Serving as casket bearers will be Kelly Schmiesing, Derek Schmiesing, Daniel Schmiesing, Tanner Schmiesing, Marcus Schmiesing, John Doyle Banovetz, and Matthew Banovetz. Serving as cross bearer and scripture bearer will be Katherine Banovetz, Hannah Schmiesing, and Mackenzie Schmiesing.
The family of Katherine would like to give a special thank you to CentraCare Hospice for their loving care. Katherine was greatly fond of all of the staff.
