Karen Moening

Karen E. Moening, age 58 of Melrose died Sunday, February 22, 2004 at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 25 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Vincent Lieser officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday from 3 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 to 11 a.m. at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Mothers will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Karen Moening was born on September 14, 1945 in Melrose, Minnesota to Frank and Loretta (Vogel) Kortan. She graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1963. She married Eugene Moening on October 26, 1968 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Karen was employed at the Melrose High School for 29 years. She worked with children with special needs and in the classrooms. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, cooking and canning. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose and the Christian Mothers.

Survivors include her children, Melanie Moening of Sauk Centre and Brian Moening of Melrose; one granddaughter, Courtney Moening; mother, Loretta Kortan of Sauk Centre; sisters and brother, Bernice Uhlenkamp and her husband, Ernie of Elrosa, Darlene Dols and her husband, John of Sauk Centre, Jeanette Loehr and her husband, Joe of Melrose, Michael Kortan and his wife, Theresa of Sauk Centre, and Julie Grams of Chaska.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Moening on August 8, 2003; and father, Frank Kortan.

Serving as casket bearers will be Mathew Grams, Gerry Uhlenkamp, Steve Dols, Duane Kemper, Joey Loehr, and Randy Moening. Honorary bearers will be the Chrisitan Mothers. Serving as cross bearer will be Judy Roehl and scripture bearer will be Kim Eibensteiner. Gift bearers will be Stacy Hellermann, Mary Kay Spanier and Darlene Dols. Mass servers will be Matt and Jill Van Beck. Eucharistic Ministers will be Bernice Uhlenkamp, Vern and Barb Hollermann. Lector will be Kim Eibensteiner.
