June M. Shefland, age 87 of Sauk Centre, died Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 13 at the Sauk Centre United Methodist Church in Sauk Centre with Pastor Ruth Gangloff officiating. Private inurnment will take place in Lake Emma Cemetery near Park Rapids.
Visitation will be at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
June Marilyn Wulf was born June 27, 1927 in Newport, Minnesota to Milo and Nellie (Birkholm) Wulf. She attended Park High School in St. Paul Park. On January 18, 1945 she married Raymond Shefland at her parent's home in Newport. The couple resided on the east coast while Raymond completed his military service. When they returned to Minnesota they resided on Carver Lake in Woodbury, then in Mendota Heights, before settling in Inver Grove Heights. For a time, June was a cook at the day care center at Mount Bethel United Methodist Church in Inver Grove Heights. When Raymond retired in 1979 they moved to Lake Emma near Park Rapids. For the past 14 years June had resided in Sauk Centre, where she was a member of the Sauk Centre United Methodist Church.
June was known for her cooking and baking, inviting anyone around to stay for a meal. She loved to fish and taught her whole family how to fish. She also enjoyed camping, sewing, playing cribbage, doing puzzles, and she devoted her life to her family.
Survivors include seven children, Janet (Gary) Rein of Cottage Grove, Gene (Barb) Shefland of New Richmond, Wisconsin, Joyce (Karl) Braun of Phoenix, Arizona, Julie (Dale) Gomer of Burtrum, Glenn Shefland of Sauk Centre, Jane (Dwayne) Hostetler of Melrose, and Jackie (James) White of Farmington; 30 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Joan Taylor of DeLand, Florida, Monna Nestrud of Mora, Jerry (Mary Lou) Wulf of Medford, Oregon, Darla Waterman of St. George, Utah, Burdell "Skip" Wulf of Yucca Valley, California, and David (Sandy) Wulf of Fontana, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond Shefland on March 20, 1996; son, Gordon Shefland; one grandson; sisters, Shirley Smith, Miloa McGettrick, Leona Kazerooni, and Carmen Greathouse; brothers, Fred and Doug Wulf.
Serving as casket bearers will be Michael and Chad LeVake, Anthony Luttrell, Raymond Tucker, Michael Lynch, Gene Matthew Shefland, and Wesley Raasch.
