June Monson

June L. Monson, age 85 of Sauk Centre, died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 18, 2009 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre with Rev. Kathy Schuler officiating. Private inurnment will be held at a later date in Redwood Falls.

Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

June Varpness was born February 17, 1924 in Cottonwood, Minnesota to Alfred and Kathryn (Munsch) Varpness. She was a graduate of Redwood Falls High School. On February 25, 1943 she married Kenneth Monson in Tacoma, Washington. The couple resided in Vesta, Minnesota from 1945 until they moved to Sauk Centre in 1978. For the past month she had resided at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre.June loved writing letters and receiving mail. Along with writing to her family and friends, she spent many hours doing embroidery work and making yarn covered hangers. She enjoyed fishing, bird watching, gardening and canning, including making Gamma June's, "World's Best" strawberry jam.

June was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Redwood Falls.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Monson of Sauk Centre; three daughters, Linda (Larry) Moeller of Dent, Shirley (Bill) Worden of Hayfield, and Brenda Larivee of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marjean (Chuck) Cossette of Naples, Florida and Mary Lou Whirley of Brainerd.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and son-in-law, Kenneth Larivee on December 20, 2004.
