Joyce E. Hendershot, age 62 of Long Prairie, died on Friday, August 6, 2004 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria following a short struggle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 9 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. R. E. Bloemker will officiate with interment following in Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
Joyce Hendershot was born on September 26, 1941 in Moose Lake, Minnesota to Elmer and Ellyne (Salo) Stepan. On January 24, 1962 she married Raymond Hendershot in San Luis Obispo, California. The couple resided in St. Paul before moving to Sauk Centre in 1976. She was employed by St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre and later at the Long Prairie Memorial Nursing Home in Long Prairie.Joyce loved helping people and spending time with her grandchildren. Her favorite pastimes included stained glass work, singing and playing music, gardening and canning, knitting and sewing, working puzzles and shopping.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Hendershot of Long Prairie; father, Elmer (June) Stepan of St. Paul; three children, Deborah Fiskness (Dan Polipnick), Myron (Jackie) Hendershot and Steven (Lisa) Hendershot, all of Sauk Centre; eight grandchildren, Ted and Jay Fiskness and Angela Polipnick, Casey and Samantha Hendershot, Nicole, Chase and Chelsy Hendershot; brothers and sister, Barry Stepan and Becky Chatterton, both of Valley Center, California and Alan (Ann) Stepan of White Bear Lake.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ellyne Stepan.
Serving as casket bearers will be Ted and Jay Fiskness, Dan Polipnick, Mike and Jim Tschida and Peter Schulzetenberg with Patricia Pillsbury serving as cross bearer.
Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
