Joseph C. Wimmer, age 93, of Albany, died Friday, December 7, 2007 at the Albany Area Hospital in Albany, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 10 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany with Rev. Corwin Collins, OSB officiating. A private entombment will be held in the parish mausoleum.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the mass on Monday at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany. Parish prayers will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday evening at the church.
Joseph "Joe" Wimmer was born on December 26, 1913 in New Munich, Minnesota to Karl and Theresa (Gruber) Wimmer. He moved to Albany in 1948 where he continued to farm until he retired. As a young adult, he played baseball and managed the New Munich baseball team for several years. He continued his interest in baseball by watching his grandsons play and following national baseball and football. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing with family and friends. He always kept up with current events and was active for many years in political affairs. He was one of the original founders of the Albany Farmers Union. Joe was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church. He and his wife were very active members of the Albany Pioneer Club and both enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include his children, Charles (Pat) Wimmer of Menomonee, Wisconsin, Barbara Hofmann of Laramie, Wyoming, James (Joyce) Wimmer of Albany, John (Joyce) Wimmer of Farming, and Mary Jo Downing of Delafield, Wisconsin; 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor (Bonfig) Wimmer; sisters, Margaret, Sister Marie OSB, and Caroline Mayers; brothers, John, Gottfried, Franz, and Karl; granddaughter, Carla; and also his foster brothers and sisters.
