Joseph E. "Joe" Weinmann, age 78 of Elrosa, died peacefully surrounded by family Friday, June 4, 2010 at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview in Minneapolis, Minnesota after a courageous battle with renal cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 8 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa with Rev. Jeff Ethen officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery with military honors provided by the Lake Henry American Legion Post 612.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the service.
Joe Weinmann was born April 2, 1932 in Lake George Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Edward and Anna (Woeste) Weinmann. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He then worked on construction and farmed, buying the family farm in 1961. On October 2, 1965 he married Marie Bieringer at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. After his retirement from full-time farming in 1995, he worked at Sibley State Park for several years.Joe enjoyed hunting, driving and socializing, and spending time with his family and granddaughters.
He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Lake Henry American Legion Post 612.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Weinmann of Elrosa; three children, Todd (Janet) Weinmann of Fargo, North Dakota, Thomas (Katie) Weinmann of Elrosa, and Sarah (Arjun) Sandhu of Minneapolis; three granddaughters, Kathryn and Erica Weinmann, and Sofia Bella Sandhu; brothers and sisters, Albert Weinmann of Long Prairie, Delores Schiemann of Cold Spring, Regina Felling of Elrosa, George (Florence) Weinmann of Richmond, Gerhard "Jerry" (Bertie) Weinmann of Watkins, and Alice Schmitz of Willmar.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Annie Speldrich and Ludwina Kampsen; and twin infant brothers.
Serving as casket bearers will be Roger Weinmann, Deb Wieling, David Michels, Jeremy and Corey Nietfeld, Pat Bieringer, Duane Lieser, and Mark Weller. Cross Bearer will be Rita Hennen, scripture bearer will be Melissa Felling, lector will be Cecelia Bieringer, and gift bearers will be Kathryn, Erica, and Katie Weinmann. Honorary bearers will be Roger Bierschbach, Werner Fuchs, Dale Hens, Ray Hieserich, Charlie Spanier, Math Michels, Jerry and Bertie Weinmann, Dan Nietfeld, Steve Schoenberg, Tony Olson, and Ed Weinmann.
