Joseph B. "Joe" Steinemann, age 83, of Melrose, died Friday, August 18, 2006 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 22 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Melrose Veterans Honor Guard will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. and Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council at 8 p.m.

Joseph Steinemann was born January 16, 1923 in Melrose, Minnesota to Henry and Elizabeth (Osterhus) Steinemann. Joe served in the U.S. Army in Okinawa during WWII. He married Agnes Koopmeiners on June 3, 1947 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. He worked at Kraft and Jennie-O Foods in Melrose. Joe enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and helping on the farm. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council, and Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050.

Survivors include his children, Lawrence Steinemann of Sauk Centre, Lorraine Emter of St. Cloud, Joseph Steinemann, Jr. (Lori) of Sauk Rapids, Linda Lieser (Dan) of Mount Horeb, WI, John Steinemann (Marlene) of Akron, OH, Leonard Steinemann of Akron, OH, Janice Lokken (Jim) of Alexandria, Esther Borgerding (Jerome) of Sauk Centre, Norb Steinemann (Marilyn) of Little Falls, Ed Steinemann (Sheila) of Paynesville, Jim Steinemann (Julie) of Meire Grove, Dale Steinemann of Sauk Centre, and Lisa Rolfes (Pat) of Melrose; many grandchildren and great grandchilderen; sisters, Marie Dullinger of Trego, WI, Josepha Kerfeld of New Munich, Adella Renneker (Norb) of Freeport, and Loretta Hinnenkamp of Sauk Centre; and sister-in-law, Esther Steinemann of Freeport.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Agnes Steinemann on November 5, 1992; and brother, Henry Steinemann.

Serving as casket bearers will be Joe's sons, Lawrence, Joe, Jr., John, Norb, Ed, Jim, and Dale. Cross bearer will be Adella Renneker and scripture bearer will be Lisa Rolfes.
