Joseph A. Schoenberg, age 81, of Spring Hill, died Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spring Hill with Rev. Thomas Becker officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church in Spring Hill. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. followed by St. Michael's Men's Society and the Knights of Columbus Council 3820 of Spring Hill at 8 p.m. Monday evening.

Joseph Schoenberg was born September 22, 1926 in Melrose to Joseph, Sr. and Mary (Ellering) Schoenberg. He farmed near the Spring Hill area all his life. Joseph retired in 1992 and continued to live on his farm. After retirement, he helped his nephew, Jim with his farm work. Joseph was always willing to lend a hand to any friend or neighbor. When he was not farming, he enjoyed deer hunting and fishing.He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spring Hill, St. Michael's Men's Society, and the Knights of Columbus Council 3820 of Spring Hill.

Survivors include his brothers and sisters, Marie Bauer of Paynesville, Edward (Audrey) Schoenberg of Watkins, John (Tina) Schoenberg of Indianapolis, IN, Laura (Urban) Walz of Richfield, and Marlene (Dan) Jansen of Foreston; and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph, Sr. and Mary Schoenberg; sisters and brother, Ann Loehr, Katie Terhaar, Gilbert Schoenberg, and Leona Spanier; niece, Esther Westermeyer; and nephews, Michael and Joseph Schoenberg.

Serving as casket bearers will be Marvin Spanier, Bob Bauer, Roger Schoenberg, Mike Schoenberg, LeRoy Terhaar, and Donny Loehr. Cross bearer will be Jim Schoenberg. Mass servers will be Greta Schoenberg and Derek Welle. Gift bearers will be Judy Marthaler and Mike Schoenberg. Bonnie Bauer will be the reader. Honorary bearers will be Joseph's neighbors and friends. The eulogy will be read by Marvin Spanier.
