Joseph M. 'Joe' Rieland, age 50 of New Munich, died surrounded by family, after a six year battle with cancer, on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at his home in New Munich, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 22 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich with Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 5 p.m. Sunday evening.
Joseph Marvin Rieland was born April 30, 1962 in Melrose, Minnesota to Vernon and Monica (Boeckermann) Rieland. He graduated from Melrose High School in 1980. On July 19, 1986 he married Brenda Heidgerken at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany. Joe worked at River Turkey Farm, south of New Munich, for 27 years.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich and Catholic United Financial.Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, playing cards, and watching the Minnesota Timberwolves. His favorite pastime was to work and help relatives and friends with their work.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Rieland of New Munich; children, April (Joe) Toeben of New Brighton, Courtney Rieland of New Munich, and Hunter Rieland of New Munich; mother, Monica Rieland of New Munich; brothers and sisters, Steve (Denise) Rieland of Sauk Centre, Jim Rieland of New Munich, Mary (Mark) Mayers of Melrose, Dennis (Tami) Rieland of Sauk Centre, Margie (Steve) Hinnenkamp of Melrose and Bill (Peggy) Rieland of Melrose; and sister-in-law, Sue Rieland of New Munich.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Vern Rieland; uncle, Giles 'Dick' Rieland; his grandparents; and other aunts and uncles.
Serving as casket bearers will be Jerry Schmiesing, Steve Rieland, Brian Rieland, Jeremy Rieland, Brian Heidgerken, Roger Rieland, Bill Rieland, and Eric Mayers. Cross bearer will be Brady Rieland and scripture bearer will be Lindsey Rieland. Mass servers will be Jordan Schmiesing and Tyler Schmiesing. Gift bearers will be Margie Hinnenkamp and Mary Mayers. Eucharistic ministers will be Denise Rieland, Hunter Anderson, and Sara Rieland. The eulogy will be read by Greg Rieland.
