Joseph B. "Joe" Otte, age 88 of Melrose, died Thursday, November 24, 2011 at the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 30 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose with Rev. Ken Thielman officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery in Sauk Centre.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Joseph Bernard Otte was born August 20, 1923 in Melrose, Minnesota to Ben and Catherine (Hemmesch) Otte. On March 3, 1954 he was united in marriage to Elsie Pederson at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Joe was a farmer for a number of years and also worked at City Sanitation in Sauk Centre, the North Star in Sauk Centre, and Jennie-O Turkey Store for six years.
He enjoyed playing cards, playing keyboard, and listening to polka music.
Survivors include his children, Ruth Egan of Sauk Centre, David (Debra) Otte of Holdingford, Diane (Joseph) Ness of Paynesville, Robert Otte of Sauk Centre, Harold (Dorothy) Otte of Little Falls, and Kathy Engel of Pierz; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Irene Tiemann of Melrose, Anna Mae Denne of Melrose, Bonnie Mickels of Moorhead, and Betty Dickhause of Melrose.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Otte on September 3, 1980; parents; two grandsons, Robert Joseph Otte and Clinton Joseph Ness; brother and sisters, Catherine Otte, Casimir Otte, Marie Rademacher, and Sister Edna Otte.
Serving as casket bearers will be Dave Otte, Robert Otte, Marv Holmquist, Matt Sand, Travis Harlander, and Ryan Beste.
