Joseph E. “Joe” Moening, age 85 of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at the CentraCare Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 20 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Mark Botzet officiating and Rev. Joseph Korf concelebrating. Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Parish prayers will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Joseph Ervin Moening was born February 6, 1940 in Padua, Minnesota to Aloys and Philomena “Minnie” (Elfering) Moening. He attended the country school in Padua and graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1957. He served in the Army National Guard from 1957 until his honorable discharge 1961. Joe was employed by Dependable Surfacing in road construction from 1960 through 1965. On June 24, 1967 he was united in marriage to Norma Herickhoff at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa, Minnesota. Joe became a self-employed dairy and grain farmer in Raymond Township near Padua from 1966 until his retirement in 2005.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre and former member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church where he was a member most of his life. Joe was also a member of the Holy Name Society in Padua, Knights of Columbus, and the Padua Conservation Club until 2005. Since the age of 14, Joe has been an avid reader making countless trips to the Sauk Centre Library.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Norma Moening of Sauk Centre; children, Nancy (Tim) LaBissoniere of New Hope, Michael (Sherry) Moening of Lakeville, Anita (Don) Juntilla of Brooklyn Center, and Melissa (Pete) Breiter of East Bethel; 12 grandchildren, Jerrad, Brent, Christine, Katherine, Paul, Grant, JoAnn, Jack, Laura, Natalie, Mia, and Harlan; three great-grandchildren, Micah, Benedict, and Josephine with one on the way; brothers and sisters, Dorothy Bentfield of St. Paul, Jerry Moening of Bloomington, Edmund Moening of Sauk Centre, Art (Sharon) Moening of Prior Lake, Carol (Dean) Bristol of Golden, Colorado, Gene (Margie) Moening of Minneapolis, Vern Moening of Maple Grove, and Roxanne Moening of Sammamish, Washington.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Raymond Moening; and brother, Donald Moening.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Holy Family School in Sauk Centre.
