Jonathan "Jon" Coltvet, age 41 of Sauk Centre, died Thursday, June 7, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, following an extensive open heart surgery.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 11 at the Sauk Centre High School Auditorium in Sauk Centre. Rev. Kevin Born will officiate with interment following in Greenwood Cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and Monday at the high school from 10 to 11 a.m.

Jonathan Scott Coltvet was born on January 13, 1966 at Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Sherman and Rachel (Maakestad) Coltvet. After attending kindergarten in Longview, Washington, he attended and graduated from Wanamingo Public Schools in Wanamingo, Minnesota. He was a three sport athlete and also participated in music and drama. Jon completed his Associates of Arts degree at Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa and then finished up some general credits at Concordia University in St. Paul, before graduating with a degree in Mortuary Science from the University of Minnesota in 1988. Jon moved to Sauk Centre in September of 1988 to start his career as a funeral director with Schad Funeral Homes. Jon had the great pleasure of serving his whole career under the guidance of Bernie Schad and Pat Patton of Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services, and he was currently the manager of the Melrose office.

Jon was married to Sarah Anderson on June 22, 1991 at Zion Lutheran Church in Blackduck, Minnesota. They loved and were proud of being Alex's parents for the past ten years.Jon was a member of First Lutheran Church of Sauk Centre, and served on it's Council for three terms. He was a founding member of the Mainstreet Investment Team. He loved to golf, buy rental houses, travel, boat and he was a most excellent guitar player. He could usually play any request within a few minutes. Because of his compassionate and gentle nature, Jon was loved and respected by all who met him.

Jon will be greatly missed by his wife, Sarah and son, Alex of Sauk Centre; parents, Sherman and Rachel Coltvet of Rochester; siblings, Elizabeth McGeeney (Jim) and niece, Anna of Rochester, Tim Coltvet (Maren) and niece, Linnea, and nephew, Anders of Plymouth, and Stephanie Coltvet of Minneapolis. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Nina Anderson of Blackduck; brothers-in-law, Steven Anderson (Kelly Fries) and nephews, Lukas and Reilly of St. Francis, Philip Anderson of Brownsville, Texas, Joseph Anderson (Julie Muller) and niece, Adrienne, and nephew, Max of Roseau; sister-in-law, Mary Anderson (Craig Cameron) and nephew, Elliot, and niece, Clara of Tenstrike; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Benjamin and Hattie Coltvet; maternal grandparents, Arnold and Esther Maakestad; and father-in-law, Lawrence Anderson.

Serving as casket bearers will be Pat Patton, Bernie Schad, Linda Holm, Julie Schaefer, Mark Kranz, Paul Hintzen, Todd Otteson, and Jon Wurm. Stephanie Coltvet will serve as cross bearer. Honorary bearers will be the Mainstreet Investment Team including Bill and Kathy Larson, Linda and Duane Ostendorf, John Welle, Gwen Kranz and Vicki Pfeffer.

Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church of Sauk Centre.
