John A. "Jack" Vornbrock, age 76 of Meire Grove, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the CentraCare Health Koronis Manor Care Center in Paynesville, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 24 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating and Rev. Virgil Petermeier, osc concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church in Meire Grove. Parish prayers will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
John Aloysius Vornbrock was born December 28, 1940 in Meire Grove, Minnesota to Aloysius and Emily (Meyer) Vornbrock. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard and was honorably discharged. Jack was a self- employed carpenter and painter. After his retirement, Jack would build windmills and wishing wells and sell them along Highway 4 in Meire Grove.
Music was Jack's passion. He played the guitar and was a member of the Meire Grove Band and St. John's Choir. Jack was also a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove, Catholic United Financial, and St. Joseph's Men's Society. In his youth, Jack enjoyed playing baseball for the Meire Grove Grovers and golfing. Later in life, he enjoyed building and playing guitar, flying model airplanes, and building his windmills and wishing wells.
Survivors include his brothers and sisters, Dorothy Wick of Burnsville, Valeria Younger of St. Cloud, Gerald (Phyllis) Vornbrock of Upsala, James (Ramona) Vornbrock of Tekamah, Nebraska, Marie (John) Kahlert of Cold Spring, Ruth (Armando) Vornbrock de la Fuente of Torreon, Mexico, and Karen Vornbrock-Burns of St. Cloud; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Bertha Vornbrock; sisters and brother, Priscilla Vornbrock, Virgil Vornbrock, and Marion Rouse.
Serving as casket bearers will be Chuck Younger, Jeff Younger, Paul Kahlert, Tom Kahlert, Roman Vornbrock, and Donald Vornbrock. Cross bearer will be Sarah Jones and scripture bearer will be Pam Janssen.
