John Stokman

On Saturday, Oct. 23 John spent the morning serving people in the Melrose community before his unexpected heart attack and death at age 74.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Peggy, and his five children: Peter (Marcie) of Crosby, MN, Kate (Vince) Sloot of New Ulm, MN, Paul (Lisa) of Maple Lake, MN, Dan (Chris) of West Saint Paul, MN, Rachel (Curtis) of Ankeny, IA, 23 grandchildren, siblings Bill Stokman of Minnesota Lake, MN and Kathryn Schnepp of Wauwatosa, WI.

John worked at the State Bank of Cairo and lived in Grand Island, NE before retiring and moving to Melrose in 2001. He spent his retirement years serving God and community, enjoying time with family at the cabin, dance club, reading and playing golf with neighbors and his grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, October 27 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 26 from 4-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home. A Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. and parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Mary's Emergency Fund, checks can be made payable to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
