John C. "Jake" Jacobson, age 60 of Melrose, passed away Monday, January 14, 2008 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, January 19 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Private interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Rockford.
Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday one hour prior to the services.
John Jacobson was born January 28, 1947 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Harry L. and Juanita M. (Hoffmann) Jacobson. He graduated from Benilde High School in 1965, attended St. Cloud State University, and was a member of the MN Army National Guard. He was vice president and long time employee of Nordic Press, Inc. in New Hope.He died peacefully at his home on Big Birch Lake near Melrose, where he enjoyed fishing, boating, nature, and his beloved dogs, Roxie, Norman, Birch, and Jack. John will be remembered by all for his exquisite sense of humor and his great love of adventure and travel.
Survived by his daughter, Emily Kate Igelman, her husband, David, and granddaughter, Olive, of Plymouth. Also survived by his sister, Joan Sorenson, of Rockford; nephews and nieces; and many close friends, with special regard to caring friends, Barbara and Marna.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Serving as casket bearers will be Dave Igelman, Eric Carlson, Curt Johnson, Benjamin Grenzer, Mike Hinman, and Bill Seims.
