John Beckermann

John J. Beckermann, age 74, of Spicer, formerly Melrose, died Thursday, September 15, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 19 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Julius Beckermann, O.S.B. officiating and Rev. Marvin Enneking concelebrating. Inurnment will be Tuesday at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, Minnesota.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and 1 hour prior to the service at church on Monday. Parish prayers will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.

John James Beckermann was born February 16, 1937 in Melrose to Edmund and Rose (Berns) Beckermann. After graduating from Melrose High School, John joined the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged after four years of service. John spent many years bartending in Minneapolis and St. Paul before moving to Spicer to work for his brother at Beckermann Foods. John was an avid bowler and swimmer. He enjoyed watching all sports and going to the lake.

John was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spicer.

Survivors include his nine brothers, Vern (Sue) Beckermann of Sauk Centre, Joe (Joyce) Beckermann of Melrose, Harvey (Vicki) of Spicer, Rev. Julius Beckermann, O.S.B. of St. James Parish in Jacobs Prairie, Jim (Vera) Beckermann of Juneau, Alaska, Hank (Lois) Beckermann of Blaine, Fran (Linda) Beckermann of Melrose, Pete Beckermann of Bricelyn, and Pat (Carleen) Beckermann of Centerville, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Rose Beckermann; and sister-in-law, Vinie Beckermann.

Serving as casket bearers will be Jonah Beckermann, Jesse Beckermann, Luke Beckermann, Mike Beckermann, Dave Beckermann, and Steve Beckermann. Cross bearer will be Paula Smith and scripture bearer will be Jeron Smith .
