John B. "Ben" Wiechmann, age 94, of Grey Eagle, died peacefully Thursday, February 8, 2007 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.

A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 10 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Mark Willenbring officiating. Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Grey Eagle.

Friends may call Saturday at the church one hour prior to the service.

John was born February 2, 1913 in Millwood Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to August and Anna (Mueller) Wiechmann. He was united in marriage to Evelyn S. Hess on December 31, 1940 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Lake Henry, Minnesota. They moved to Freeport where he was assistant butter maker. They then moved to Belle River where he operated the creamery for 23 years. They moved to Clitheral where they owned and operated a bar/restaurant for nine years. They retired to Bass Lake near Grey Eagle and for the past three years they resided at Village View Apartments in Grey Eagle. John loved to fish and tend to his garden. He loved watching sports, especially baseball.He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle, served as Eucharistic minister for 23 years and was a member of the Eagle's Club of Fergus Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Grey Eagle; son, David of Hastings; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Anna Wiechmann; daughter, Margaret Ann Riesselman in March of 2002; brothers, Henry, Frederick, Lawrence, and Joseph Wiechmann; sisters, Rose Tieowski, Marie Muellner.

Urn bearer will be Andrew Koran. Cross bearer will be Alex Olden.
