Johanna K. Hoeschen, age 84 of Melrose, died Thursday, December 30, 2004 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose following a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 3 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose. Rev. Vince Lieser will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Parish prayers will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Johanna Hoeschen was born March 12, 1920 in St. Francis, Minnesota to Michael and Maria (Blum) Gangl. On July 13, 1943 she was united in marriage to Lambert Hoeschen at St. Francis, Minnesota. The couple farmed near Freeport and later resided in St. Paul. In 1974 they moved to a home on Big Birch Lake, near Melrose. They moved to Melrose in 1990 and later moved to Parkview Center. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose.
Survivors include son, Kenneth (Mary) Hoeschen of Maplewood; son-in-law, Tom Riebe of Roseville; two grandchildren, Todd (Traci) Riebe and Tammy Jo Riebe; greatgrandson, Tyler Riebe; sisters and brothers, Veronica Rohe of Albany, Isabel Murphy, Al (Lorraine) Gangl, Elmer Gangl, Don (Peggy) Gangl and Marty (Roger) Doetkott, all of Melrose, Sally (Harvey) Rolfes of Minneapolis, Louella (Jim) Noren of St. Paul and Ida (Carl) Finken of St. Rosa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Maria (Blum) Gangl; husband, Lambert Hoeschen on June 22, 2004; daughter, Jo Ann Riebe; sisters and brothers, Angeline "Angie" Rakotz, Loretta Brooks, Josepha, Louie, Daniel, Herman and Melvin Gangl.
Serving as casket bearers will be Thomas and Todd Riebe, Al, Don and Elmer Gangl and Ray Stoermann.
