Joan C. Schneeweis, age 79 of Melrose, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at her home in Melrose, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 10 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Interment will be in parish cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Parish prayers will be held at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Joan Cecilia Muenzer was born November 7, 1933 in Little Falls, Minnesota to Albert and Emily (Pogatchnik) Muenzer. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from St. Cloud State University. She was united in marriage to James Schneeweis on June 5, 1957 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose. Joan was employed by District 740 in Melrose where she was a teacher and community education director for 38 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose.
Survivors include her children, Jim Schneeweis, Jr. (Robert Guillen) of Los Angeles, California, Charlie Schneeweis (Kate Ratcliff) of Marlboro, Vermont, Jean Schneeweis of Corcoran, Brother Joseph Schneeweis, O.S.B. of Collegeville, and Mary Schneeweis (Roger Williams) of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Blaise Rienbold, Patrick and Michael Schneeweis, Hannah, Caleb, and Joah Schwecke; and sister, Jane (Jim) Herbst of Monticello.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Schneeweis on March 24, 1969; parents; and brother, Charles Muenzer.
Serving as casket bearers will be Caleb Schwecke, Joah Schwecke, Blaise Rienbold, Clint Herbst, Michael Schneeweis, and Patrick Schneeweis. Cross bearer will be Edith Messerich and scripture bearer will be Jan Atkinson. Honorary bearers will be Marge Schaefer, Ellie Olmscheid, Wally Freeman, Don Andersen, and Victor Pogatchnik, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Michael's Hospice.
