Joan C. Peters, age 86, of Sauk Centre, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday, February 23, 2018 at her home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 27 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Suhdansu Kumar, O.S.B. officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sauk Centre.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5 p.m. followed by prayers from the United Auxiliaries at 6 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Joan Cecilia McKigney was born June 29, 1931 in Tracy, Minnesota to Edward and Mary (Hauger) McKigney. At the age of 6, the family moved to Sedan, Minnesota. On November 18, 1954, she married Jerome Peters in Sedan, Minnesota. They moved to a farm in Padua, Minnesota and she worked on the family farm for 39 years before retiring to Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
She was very active with 4-H, Christian Mothers, Homemakers, MCCL, food shelf, and VFW Auxiliary. Joan shared her talents by helping others who were in need. If Joan saw anybody in need, she was always willing to help by visiting the sick, shut-ins, and offering hospitality to others. She was blessed with six children, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren who were the center of her life. Joan was blessed with wonderful friends and enjoyed many good times with them.
Joan is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jerome Peters; five children, Marlene (Randy) Groetsch of Sauk Centre, Barbara Moore (Doug Palm) of Alexandria, Renee (Jerome) Ilk of Overland Park, Kansas, MaryKay (Peter) Thompson of St. Charles, Missouri, and Eileen (Mark) Reed of Stuart's Draft, Virginia; siblings, Theresa Helm of Detroit, Michigan, Sister Louise McKigney of Mississippi, Geraldine Rasmussen of Glenwood, Dorothy (Walbert) Peters of Arkansas, Alice (Jim) Kinney of Sauk Centre, Leo McKigney of Villard, and Robert McKigney of Oskais; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; son, Joseph Peters; and siblings, Vincent, Mary, Rita, Edward, Charles, Helen, and James.
Serving as casket bearers will be Justin Moore, Ryan Moore, Matthew Groetsch, David Ilk, Christopher Reed, and Ian Thompson. Cross bearer will be Amanda Ilk and scripture bearer will be Donna Jansen.
