Joan Hieserich

Joan B. Hieserich, age 79 of Elrosa, died after a long battle with cancer Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at CentraCare Nursing Home in Long Prairie, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 16 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa. Rev. Mark Stang will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and at the church Friday one hour prior to the service. Parish prayers will be at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Joan Bertha Borgerding was born May 17, 1934 in Freeport, Minnesota to Herman and Bernadina (Hoeschen) Borgerding. She graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1952. She had been employed at Nelson's Bakery in Sauk Centre. On June 12, 1956 she married Marvin Hieserich at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. After their marriage the couple farmed near Elrosa. She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Elrosa Senior Citizens.

Joan enjoyed puzzle books, gardening, canning and baking and visiting with family and friends. She was proud that she received her driver's license at the age of 62.

Survivors include five children, Deb Searcy of Willmar, Steve (Linda) Hieserich, Mark (Mary Jo) Hieserich and David Hieserich, all of Elrosa and Jim (Annette) Hieserich of Paynesville; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Alice (Ronnie) Sunderman of Long Prairie, Ralph (Arlis) Borgerding of Sauk Centre, Carol Kraemer of Alexandria, Roger (Carol) Borgerding of Sauk Centre, Arlene (Werner) Fuchs of Belgrade; brother-in-law, Jeff Barrett of Hudson, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Hieserich on February 6, 1996; parents; sister, Diane Barrett; and brother-in-law, Jerry Kraemer.

Serving as casket bearers will be Mark, Jim, David, Steve, Travis and Dustin Hieserich. Cross bearer will be Jesse McBroom and scripture bearer, Deb Searcy.
