Jerome G. "Jerry" Toenies, age 76 of Sauk Centre died Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 19 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Andrew Marthaler officiating and Rev. Todd Schneider concelebrating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 5:15 p.m. Sunday evening followed by the United Veterans Prayer Service at 7 p.m.
Jerome George Toenies was born February 18, 1933 in Freeport, Minnesota to Joseph and Kathryn (Bueckers) Toenies. On November 6, 1956 he was united in marriage to Rita Rose Marthaler at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre.Jerome served in the United States Marine Corps from May 27, 1953 until he was honorably discharged on May 26, 1961. He served in the Korean War. After the Korean War, he was trained as an electrician and co-owned his own business until 1977. In March of 1977, he became the buildings and grounds supervisor for the Sauk Centre School District until he retired on September 30, 1995. After retiring, he owned and operated his own electrical business until January 2009. He was licensed as a Master Electrician. He enjoyed woodworking and making a variety of projects for family and friends.
Jerome was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Bishop Busch Council 4863 Knights of Columbus, Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853 and American Legion Post 67.
Jerome is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rita of Sauk Centre; seven children, Cary Toenies of Fairbanks, Alaska, Kevin (Danette) Toenies of Big Lake, Keith (Karen) Toenies of Sauk Centre, Dale Toenies of Fairbanks, Alaska, Karen (Doug) Fowler of Bloomington, Illinois, Patrick Toenies of Eden Prairie, and Carla Dulas of Glenwood; ten grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Celine (Claude) Zabinski of Hibbing, Bernadette (Robert) Fairchild of Post Falls, Idaho, Sr. Collette Toenies, OSF of Mexico, Donald (Virginia) Toenies of Sauk Centre, JoAnn (Bernard) Deters of Sauk Centre, Ralph (Sharon) Toenies of Mora, Harvey (Betty) Toenies of Mora, Jean Toenies of Sauk Centre, and David (Shirley) Toenies of Aitkin; sister-in-law, Rita Toenies of Little Falls; and brother-in-law, Ervin Schmiesing of Sauk Centre.
Jerome was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alphonse Toenies; sister, Pauline Schmiesing; and infant brother, John Toenies.
Serving as casket bearers will be Adam Toenies, Aaron Toenies, Patrick Toenies, Christopher Dulas, Bill Berg, and James Metcalf. Cross bearer will be Michaella Fowler and scripture bearer will be Kelli Fowler.
