Jerome P. "Jerry" Terres, age 90 of Spring Hill, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at the Melrose Area Hospital in Melrose, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 25, 2013 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spring Hill with Rev. Omar Guanchez officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be held at 4 p.m. followed by the St. Michael's Men's Society and Catholic United Financial at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Jerome Peter Terres was born May 18, 1922 in St. Martin, Minnesota to Michael and Clara (Blonigen) Terres. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Meyer on June 30, 1947 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald. Jerry owned Jerry's Tavern in Greenwald from 1947 through 1957. He then farmed near Spring Hill until selling the farm to his son, Rick, and continued to help on the farm until he was no longer able. While farming, Jerry also ran a local feed business for 30 years.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spring Hill, St. Michael's Men's Society, and Catholic United Financial. Jerry enjoyed farming and was a handyman who could fix just about anything. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and going to their sporting events.
Survivors include his wife, MaryAnn Terres of Spring Hill; children, Gene Terres of Minneapolis, Bob (Jane) Terres of Spring Hill, Rick (Brenda) Terres of Spring Hill, and Sharon (Gary) Thelen of Freeport; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and one on the way; and sister, Esther Koska of Cold Spring.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marie Welle; brothers-in-law, Sylvester Welle and Victor Koska; and nephew, Alan Koska.
Serving as casket bearers will be Jason Terres, Mike Terres, Brad Terres, Brent Terres, Nathan Terres, Jamie Terres, Eric Terres, and Greg Thelen. Cross bearer will be Kelly Lieser and scripture bearer will be Sara Thelen. Gift bearers will be Kayla Terres, Megan Borgerding, and Brady Terres. Honorary bearers will be the St. Michael's Men's Society and Catholic United Financial.
