Jerome L. Rosen, age 92 of Freeport, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 3rd at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B officiating and Rev. Bradley Jenniges, O.S.B concelebrating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church in Freeport. Goldenaires Senior Citizens and the St. Joseph's Men's Society will pray at 4 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Jerome Leonard Rosen was born October 16, 1922 in Albany Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Leonard and Maria (Loch) Rosen. On September 30, 1947 he married MaryEllen Stroeing at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. The couple farmed east of Freeport; retiring in 1986 and then moving to town. After retirement, he worked for Jim Hiltner Construction in Freeport. Jerome helped the City of Freeport with city maintenance and volunteered his time to set up tables for many funeral lunches at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Jerome enjoyed farming, driving tractor, fishing, playing cards, woodworking, playing BINGO, dancing to Old-Time Music, tying quilts, and braiding coat hangers with yarn.
Jerome was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport where he was an usher for many years. He also was a member of St. Joseph's Men's Society, St. Peter's Court 1556 Catholic Order of Foresters, and St. Mary's Mission Group.
Survivors include his children, Warren (Janet) Rosen of Vancouver, WA, Dianne (Mayers) (Richard) Schlichtmann of Hillsboro, ND, Marilyn (Darell) Wall of Forbes, ND, Eileen Rosen of Freeport, and Richard (MaryJane) Rosen of Albany; 22 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
Jerome was preceded in death by his parents; wife, MaryEllen Rosen on August 5, 2014; son-in-law, Ralph Mayers March 2, 1978; sisters, Margaret Goebel, Juletta Goebel, Theresa Goebel, and Sybella Krupa; and brothers, Frank, Ted, Ben, and Albin Rosen.
Serving as casket bearers will be Craig Mayers, John Wall, Russel Schleppenbach, Ryan Schleppenbach, Eric Rosen, Amanda Douvier, Leah Christopherson, and Douglas Blumer. Cross bearer will be Natasha Penner, scripture bearer will be Janeen Slegh, and tractor bearer will be Aaron Rosen. Readers will be Darren Mayers and Pamela Henningson. Gift bearers will be Sue Urlacher, Neil Rosen, and Melanie Rosen. Eucharistic Ministers will be Darell and Marilyn Wall. Honorary bearers will be grandchildren, Mike, Kateri, April, Justina, Luke, and Nick, nephews, Harold, Melvin, and Ronald Goebel and Don Rosen, and St. Joseph's Men's Society.
