Jerome W. Moritz, age 77 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully surrounded by his family Thursday, February 26, 2009 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota following a short battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 3 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Parish prayers will be held at 5:15 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Jerome Moritz was born September 20, 1931 in Elrosa, Minnesota to Frank and Mary (Hens) Moritz. On September 21, 1954 he married Janette Haskamp at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. After their marriage, the couple moved to the Twin Cities area, where Jerome was employed by International Harvester. In 1958 they began farming near Grey Eagle. They moved to Sauk Centre in 1962 where he was employed by the Farmers Coop Elevator until it closed. He then worked at Steve's Dairy until retiring in 1994.Jerome was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and the Sauk Centre Conservation Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. After his retirement, he enjoyed helping out at his daughter's farm.
Survivors include his children, Katherine (John) Theis of Chanhassen, Sandy (Jack) Wallace of Rosemount, Rick (Dea) Moritz of Sauk Centre, Deb (Mark) Pruszinske of Savage, Ron (Cindy) Moritz of Alexandria, Lori (Dan) Wall of Paynesville, and Pat (Wayne) Bromenshenkel of Sauk Centre; 13 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister, Mary Jane Fern of Howard Lake.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janette A. Moritz on December 4, 2001; parents; grandson, Matt Wallace on April 28, 2005; siblings, Herb Moritz and Philomine Moritz.
Serving as casket bearers will be grandchildren Bryan Moritz, Ryan Wall, Derek Bromenshenkel, Taryn Fingarson, Jaclyn Wallace, and Bryce Pruszinske. Cross bearer will be Blake Bromenshenkel and scripture bearer will be Brandon Moritz.
