Jerome Francis "Romie" Moorman died Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at the Melrose Area Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m., Friday, March 24, 2006 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Friday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Melrose Veterans Honor Guard will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Romie was born Sept. 7, 1927, in Melrose to Casper and Mary (Wiewel) Moorman. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Jerome was united in marriage to Dorothy E. Kemper on July 6, 1954, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Melrose. He was employed at Hollermann Manufacturing and Kraft in Melrose and enjoyed retirement for a number of years. Romie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Schanhaar-Otte V.F.W. Post 7050. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Moorman of Melrose; children, Carol Moorman of Melrose, Mark Moorman (Barb) of Freeport, Tom Moorman of Melrose, Audrey Negen (Jim) of Omaha, NE, Laura Hellmann (Mike) of Melrose; grandchildren, Adam, Aaron, Matt and Krista Moorman; Brandon and Chris Negen, and Holly Hellmann; sister, Marie Wiener of Sauk Centre; and brother, Robert Moorman of Pasco, WA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Casper Moorman, Jr. and John Moorman; sister, Marcella Lancaster; and infant son, Dennis.
Casket bearers will be Adam. Aaron and Matt Moorman, Brandon and Chris Negen and Jerry Wiener. Cross bearer will be Holly Hellmann. Scripture bearer will be Krista Moorman. Honorary bearers will be Clyde Tise, Robbie Hinnenkamp, Rich Klasen, Gilbert Klaphake, Bob Williams, Roger Wiedl and Ron Harry.
