Jeannette D. Kerfeld, age 66, of Melrose, died unexpectedly on Monday, December 14, 2009 at the Melrose Area Hospital.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 18 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa with Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. and Rev. Art Hoppe concelebrating. Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call Friday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the church in St. Rosa.
Jeannette Dorothy Kalla was born August 17, 1943 in Collegeville Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to John, Sr. and Rosalia (Studniski) Kalla. She graduated from Albany High School in 1962. Jeannette worked as a surger for two years at Fingerhut in St. Cloud. She was united in marriage to Ervin Kerfeld on May 5, 1964 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Avon and was a homemaker for her remaining years.
Jeannette was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa, Christian Mothers, and the St. Rosa Snowmobile Club. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, fishing, snowmobiling, playing cards, going to the casino, canning, watching birds, doing genealogy, taking care of her flowers, and most of all spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Ervin Kerfeld of Melrose; children, Eugene (Sally) Kerfeld of Willmar, Glenn Kerfeld of Grey Eagle, Randy Kerfeld of Melrose, Michelle (Bob) Boeckermann of Grey Eagle, Ken (Sandi) Kerfeld of Melrose, Kyle (Janine) Kerfeld of Albany, Keith Kerfeld (fiance, Laura Winkelman) of St. Cloud, Craig Kerfeld of Melrose, and Chad (Amy) Kerfeld of Burtrum; 11 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Arthur (Dorothy) Kalla of St. Cloud, Edmund (Jane) Kalla of Rockville, Alfred (Margie) Kalla of St. Joseph, John Kalla, Jr. (friend, Shirley Larson) of St. Joseph, Rosemary (Arthur) Kerfeld of Melrose, and Donna (William) Landwehr of St. Cloud.
Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Sylvester Kalla and Leonard Kalla.
Serving as urn bearer will be Clarence Rueter. Cross bearer will be Michelle Boeckermann and scripture bearer will be Glenn Kerfeld. Gift bearers will be Kelsey, Alyssa, and Sam Kerfeld. Mass servers will be Eric Kerfeld and Corey Boeckermann. Readers will be Joan Rueter and Kathy Schiller and Sally Kerfeld will give the eulogy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
