Jay C. Ferguson, age 89 of Belgrade, died on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the Melrose Area Hospital in Melrose, Minnesota.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2008 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spring Hill with Rev. Tom Becker officiating. Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery. Military Honors provided by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.

Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spring Hill.

Jay Ferguson was born March 26, 1919 in Nevada, Iowa to Alexander and Blanche (Bates) Ferguson. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1939. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946. Jay retired as Captain of the Ames Police Department in 1970. He was united in marriage to Renate Mussmann on November 25, 1970 in Houston, Texas, where Jay was employed by Flemming Foods. After retiring from Flemming Foods in 1983, he and Renate moved to Belgrade.He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spring Hill. He was also a member of the Ames Iowa Lions Club and Masonic Lodge. Jay enjoyed target shooting, singing in the church choir, cutting wood, reading and studying, especially math.

Survivors include his wife, Renate Ferguson of Belgrade; children, Jayanne (Larry) Jones of Nevada, Iowa, Donna Bahr of Granite Falls, Marlene (Jack) Garrey of Ames, Iowa, John Ferguson of Danville, Kentucky, and Heidi (Dennis) Justison of Ortonville; 17 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and sister, Darlene LeVan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers; 1 sister; 2 granddaughters; and 1 great grandson.

Serving as urn bearer will be John Ferguson.
