Jane M. Messer, age 62 of Sauk Centre, died on Saturday, July 5, 2003 at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Dick McGuire will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 3:30 to 9 p.m. Monday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Christian Mothers will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home in Sauk Centre.
Jane Messer was born on December 18, 1940 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Hubert and Alma (Schwieters) Riermann. She was a 1958 graduate of Sauk Centre High School. On September 9, 1961 she married Fred Messer, Jr. in Sauk Centre. She farmed for several years, then moved to Sauk Centre and was employed by St. Michael's Hospital as a dietary aide until the time of her death. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis and Christian Mothers.
Jane kept her spare time filled with her children, grandchildren and friends. She enjoyed Minnesota Twins baseball, casino gambling and 3 AM Wal-Mart shopping trips. She was active in her church and quite dedicated to her faith. She was generous and thoughtful and would sacrifice anything for those she loved. She quilted a quilt for each of her children and grandchildren. Her cheery smile and friendly, "Hi, there" will be greatly missed.
Survivors include four children, Joe (Sharon) Messer, Ruth (Terry) Merten, Jerry (Katy) Messer and Kevin (Tina) Messer, all of Sauk Centre; seven grandchildren, Kristopher Merten, Jamie, Justin and Cory Messer, Kolin Messer, Kayla and Dylan Messer; former husband, Fred Messer, Jr. of Sauk Centre; sisters, Irene Wallin and Mary (Roman) Jennissen, both of Sauk Centre; brother, Fred "Fritz" Riermann of Somerset, Wisconsin; and special friend, Lorraine Kresa of Sauk Centre.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alma and Hubert Riermann; and step-father, Hubert Wiener; sister, Martha Kutter.
Serving as casket bearers will be Kris Merten, Jamie, Justin, Cory and Kolin Messer. Cross bearer will be Vicki Herickhoff and scripture bearer will be Gladys "Goose" Haskamp. Honorary bearers will be Doris Leen, Lorraine Kresa, Jean Nathe, Diane Haskamp and Elaine Priebe.
