Jim was born January 30, 1934, in Sauk Centre Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Thomas Louis Kane and Ruth (Borgmann) Kane. Jim graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1951. Jim enlisted into Army in 1953, and upon his Army honorable discharge, he moved to Minneapolis where he was united in marriage to Esther Rose "Tully" Dougherty on April 19, 1958. They lived and raised their family in Brooklyn Park, MN for 47 years. Jim worked at Honeywell as a computer programmer for 38 years, then retired from Honeywell in 1993.
During their years together Jim and Tully made traveling a priority. They left Minnesota in 2003, moved to Arizona where he spent his retirement years tracing his ancestry and found true pleasure helping others in genealogy history. Throughout his retirement years, he took numerous trips to Ireland as his passion for ancestry was like no other. Upon his passing, he reminisced on his passion for travel that took him to many golf courses all over the United States and in Europe. Rome was a favorite travel place, as he would just sit and take in the sites at St. Peter’s Basilica square and looked to catch a glimpse of the residing Pope. His travels on the riverboat cruises took him all over Europe including Germany where he so enjoyed the cuisine. He lived a “good” life were his parting words to his family.
Survivors include his children; Kathy Forester, (Jr), Danny Kane, Colleen-Kane Rood, (Glenn), Bridget Kane (Joe); sister; Marilyn "Tudi" Schwegman of Sauk Centre; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Sara, Charlie, Jenna, Parker, Jessica, and Ashley; six great-grandchildren, Sammy, Joey, Maggie, Cullen, Conner, and Hunter; nieces and nephews; and cousins.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Rose "Tully"Kane; parents, Thomas Louis Kane and Ruth (Borgmann) Kane; and brother-in-law, Don Schwegman.
We wish to extend a special thanks to the Dobson Home, Hospice Care.
