James A. "Jim" Nathe, age 78 of Greenwald, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at his home in Greenwald, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 1 at Saint Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating and Rev. Ronald Dockendorf concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
James Anthony Nathe was born April 8, 1940 in Melrose, Minnesota to Edward and Amanda (Pflipsen) Nathe. Jim served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1960 through 1966. He was united in marriage to Irene Yarke on October 9, 1965 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove. Jim took over the family farm east of Greenwald where he truly loved living. He was a member of Saint Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald. Jim enjoyed playing Old Time Music and played at many weddings and anniversary parties. He loved taking walks on the trails around the farm, fishing, bowling, and enjoyed doing carpentry for people on the side. He loved spending time with his family, especially his four grandchildren. He brought music, happiness, and laughter to many people's lives.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Irene Nathe of Greenwald; children, Tom (Deb) Nathe of St. Cloud and Mike (Laura) Nathe of Big Birch Lake; four grandchildren, Josh (Katelyn), Ashley (Luke Herdering), Jacob, and Diana Nathe; brothers and sisters, Maynard (Donna) Nathe of Cold Spring, Dorreen Arens of Sauk Centre, Colleen (David) Evers of Largo, Florida, Robert Nathe of Avon, David (Doris) Nathe of Greenwald, and Rueben (Darlene) Nathe of Sauk Centre; and sister-in-law, Bernice Nathe.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Allen Nathe; brother-in-law, Clarence Ahrens; sister-in-law, Sharon Nathe; and nephew, Kurt Nathe.
Serving as casket bearers will be Joshua Nathe, Jacob Nathe, Keith Arens, Russell Nathe, Terry Nathe, and Bob Nathe, Jr. Cross bearer will be Ashley Nathe and scripture bearer will be Diana Nathe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to CentraCare Hospice.
