James Blommel

James A. "Jim" Blommel, age 75 of Grey Eagle died Monday, March 14, 2005 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 18 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Arlie Sowada officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 17 from 4 to 9 p.m. and Friday, March 18 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church in Grey Eagle. Parish Prayers will be at 7:30 p.m. followed by Holy Family Catholic Aid at 8:30 p.m.

Jim was born June 23, 1929 in Millwood Township, Stearns County, MN to Theodore and Theresa (Wittkop) Blommel, and was called home to the Lord on March 14, 2005 in St. Cloud, MN.

He attended country school in Millwood Township near St. Rosa. Jim served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956. He married Dorothy Job on September 13, 1956 in Freeport, MN, and they dairy farmed near Grey Eagle for 37 years. In 1993, they moved into Grey Eagle. Jim served on Grey Eagle School Board for 8 years. He served the St. Joseph's Church for many years as usher, Parish Council member, Trustee Board member, and as a Religious Education Teacher. He was employed as church custodian and groundskeeper from 1988-2002. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Holy Family Catholic Aid. Jim is remembered most for being a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy, of Grey Eagle and children: Jerome (Carol Anne) of Carlos; Ralph (Jeanie) of Sheridan, WY, Jane (Dan) Christian of Waseca; Dale (Judy) of St. Cloud; Lloyd (Julie) of Freeport; Mark (Lori) of Clearwater; Bryan (Mary Jane) of Austin, TX; Shirley (David) Hulinsky of Burtrum; Sharen (Craig) Keehr of Crystal; Karen (Todd) McFarlin of Omaha, NE; Scott (Jane) of Waite Park and 38 grandchildren. Also, survived by sisters, Teddy Skubic and Irene Seibert and brothers, Clarence and Robert Blommel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Alquin; brothers, Leo and John; and brothers-in-law, Ed Skubic and Richard Seibert.

Serving as casket bearers will be Sam Blommel, Tyrel Blommel, Logan Blommel, Mae Blommel, Diane Blommel, RoseAnna Blommel, Christianna Blommel and Greg Hulinsky. Serving as cross bearer will be Thomas Blommel and scripture bearer will be Brandon Blommel.

Memorials preferred to MCCL or St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Grey Eagle.
