James G. "Jim" Anderson, age 86 of Grey Eagle, died Friday, June 7, 2013 at his home in Grey Eagle, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 11 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Ronald Dockendorf officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Sauk Centre following the lunch. Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 417 of Little Sauk.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church in Grey Eagle. Parish prayers will be held at 6 p.m. Monday evening at the church.

James Gustav Anderson was born November 2, 1926 in Birchdale Township, Todd County, Minnesota to Godfrey and Grace (Lockead) Anderson. He was united in marriage to Angeline Van Heel on October 13, 1953 at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Angie and Jim purchased and operated a dairy farm in Round Prairie Township, near Grey Eagle. They operated the farm for 40 years and retired from farming in October of 1993. Jim was drafted to the Army in 1955. After Jim's discharge, they continued to operate the dairy farm. Jim and Angie retired from farming and moved to Birchdale Township near Ward Springs.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle, the American Legion Post 417 of Little Sauk, the Purple Martin Conservation Association, Lake Region Saddle Club in Alexandria, Birch Lake Riders in Grey Eagle, North Central Morgan Association in Minneapolis, and Todd County NFO. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed maple syrup making, gardening, woodworking, building customized purple martin houses, bird watching, horse shows and trail rides.

Jim is survived by his children, Kathleen (David) Steinbach of New Rockford, North Dakota, Steven (Sue) Anderson of Farwell, Allan (Mary Robinson) Anderson of Ladysmith, Wisconsin, Nancy (Gene) Klingberg of Hoffman; three grandsons, Billy Steinbach, Garrett and Justin Haley; step-grandson, Jason Gylsen; step-great-grandchildren, Darrian Peterson, Robb and Jayden Gylsen; and brother, John (Della) Anderson of Elk River.

He was in preceded in death by his wife, Angeline Anderson on December 9, 2011; parents, Godfrey and Grace Anderson; grandson, Bobby Gylsen; nephew, Randy Anderson; and great-nephew, Ryan Anderson.

Serving as casket bearers will be Garrett Haley, Justin Haley, Marty Anderson, Forrest Reichel, Gordon Van Heel, and Sherry Anderson. Cross bearer will be Billy Steinbach and scripture bearer will be Alice Molitor. Gift bearers will be Jayden Gylsen, Robbie Gylsen, and Darrian Peterson. Honorary bearers will be Rudy Pastain and the American Legion Post 417 of Little Sauk.
