Jackalyn A. "Pookie" Wilwerding, age 27 of Freeport, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, April 2, 2018 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Dan Walz officiating. Entombment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church in Freeport.
Jackalyn Ann Wilwerding was born June 24, 1990 in Melrose, Minnesota to Joseph and Kori (Kerfeld) Wilwerding. She graduated from Melrose High School in 2008 and continued her education at Rassmussen College in St. Cloud. She graduated college as a LPN (as she would call it, Low Paid Nurse) and began working at the St. Cloud Hospital for several years. She became severely ill and for the next several years, she made many trips to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester for treatments.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding horse, and watching wildlife out her parent's living room window. She also enjoyed cooking and baking. Even though she could not eat the food she made, she made sure everyone else could enjoy it. Her nieces and nephews were very important to her and she loved being their Auntie.
Survivors include her parents, Joseph and Kori Wilwerding of Freeport; brothers, Josh (Kayla) Wilwerding of Freeport and Justin (Lindsay) Wilwerding of Freeport; sister, Jessica (Jeremy) Nietfeld of Greenwald; nieces and nephews, Bryan, Allyson, and Jack Wilwerding, Chloe, Lacey, Dale, and Ethan Wilwerding, Trevor, Delaney, and Carson Nietfeld; grandparents, Harry and Dianne Kerfeld of Freeport; and many other relatives and friends.
Jackalyn was preceded in death by her grandparents, Glen and Betty Wilwerding; and great-grandparents.
Serving as casket bearers will be Ryan Sand, Nathan Sand, Luke Wilwerding, Andrew Wilwerding, Spencer Van Beck, Marshall Hujanen, Jillian Hujanen, and Kasey Wiechman. Cross bearer will be Quinten Van Beck and scripture bearer will be Natalie Wilwerding. Readers will be Christina Sand, Richard Sand, and Kelly Kerfeld. Serving as gift bearers will be Rebecca Wendroth, Meredith Meyer, and Rosemary Flanders. Eulogies will be read by KatyAnn Wilwerding and Don Kerfeld. Honorary bearers will be close personal friends.
