Irene M. Rieland, age 90 of Sauk Centre, died Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Galeon Community Memorial Home in Osakis with family members at her side.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 5th at Saint Paul's Catholic Church with Rev. Greg Paffel presiding. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery in Sauk Centre.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 5th from 9 to 11 a.m. at Saint Paul's Church prior to the funeral mass.
Irene Marie Hoeschen was born August 20, 1926 in Freeport, Minnesota to Edward and Rose (Vogel) Hoeschen. She was the only child born to her parents. On May 22, 1946, Irene was united in marriage to Elmer N. Rieland in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport, Minnesota. Together, they farmed in Raymond Township, Stearns County for 28 years. In 1972, they moved to Sauk Centre. Irene then became employed at St. Michael's Hospital and nursing home cleaning in the kitchen. Later, she continued to be a housekeeper at Red Carpet Bar & Grill and then cleaning at the Palmer House before her retirement.
Her pastimes included embroidery, attending Card Club, Birthday Club, and We Can Do It Homemakers' Club, however her greatest passion was quilting. She has made many quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She was a proud member of Saint Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, Christian Mothers, Catholic United Financial, and Saint Margaret's Mission Group.
Survivors include her seven children, Dan (Helen) Rieland of Sauk Centre, Darlene Rieland of Glenwood, Mary Lou Reed of Osakis, Dale (JoAnn) Rieland of Osakis, Debra Ann (Dennis) Rajdl of Villard, Barb (Mark) Rachey of Sauk Centre, and David (Kim) Rieland of Alexandria; 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren and one on the way. .
Irene was preceded in death by her husband Elmer N. Rieland on October 19, 1997; son-in-law, Ron Reed; and grandson, Troy Rieland.
Serving as casket bearers will be her grandsons, Darin Rieland, Trevor Reed, Sean Rieland, D.J. Rajdl, Derek Rachey, Nathan Rieland, Andy Rajdl, and Cody Rieland. Cassidy Rieland will serve as cross bearer and Calsey Rieland will serve as the Scripture bearer.
