Irene G. Poepping, age 82, of Melrose died Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at the Melrose Area Hospital.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2004 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa with Rev. Julius Beckermann, OSB officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call Thursday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Mothers will pray at 7:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Melrose.

Irene G. Poepping was born on March 19, 1922 in Millwood Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Fred and Bertha (Herzog) Dickhaus. She married Sylvester Poepping on October 23, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Melrose. She was employed by Jennie-O Foods for 10 years and then by Fingerhut in Sauk Centre for several years. She was also employed by Animal Fair in Grey Eagle for several years retiring in 1973. Irene was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and Senior Citizens. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and cooking.

Survivors include her children, Glen Poepping (Val) of Cold Spring, Betty Bertram (Allen) of St. Cloud, Connie Sprenger (Florian, Jr.) and Charles Poepping, both of Melrose, and Lois Notsch (Wayne) of Little Falls; 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Vernon Dickhaus (Betty), Helen Blommel (Al), Marie Hinnenkamp (Herbert), Monica Ahrens (Ralph) all of Melrose, Alma Frieler (Bernard) of Albany, Corrine Shay (Jim) of Florida, and Karen Callahan (John) of Coon Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sylvester Poepping on July 23, 1985; and brothers, Henry and Alcuin Dickhaus.

Casket bearers will be Sheila Lutgen, Cheryl Poepping, Jeff Bertram, Mark Bertram, Scott Sprenger, Jason Sprenger, Wade Notsch, and Adam Notsch. Cross bearer will be Heather Notsch and scripture bearer will be Greg Poepping. Honorary bearers will be grandchildren and great grandchildren.
